Skincare Mistakes that Damage Your Skin

Earlier, we discussed five mistakes that should be avoided in order to protect your skin. Now we will dive into the second five mistakes that should also be avoided. We know it can become daunting when trying to properly take care of your skin. Thus, when you know what to avoid, everything will become easier. Without further delay, let us jump into these easily avoidable skincare mistakes.

#6 Lack of Sleep

You already know that not getting enough beauty sleep is not good for you. But did you know that when you’re not well rested, your skin also becomes more dull and pale? When your body doesn’t receive enough sleep, it becomes stressed and the hormone cortisol is released. This then leads to the generation of free radicals, which results in many bad things – such as premature aging.

#7 Too Many Products

More is not always better. After cleansing your skin at night, do not use numerous products for various needs on your face. It’s not effective. And it may cause skin irritation when mixed together.

All products applied are up to 0.3% effective when absorbed by the skin. In other words, the more you add the less effective each product becomes. If you need to use different products, then it’s best to alternate the application of each product.

#8 Be Smart With Products

Know and learn what you’re applying to your face. Many products contain ingredients that do more harm than good. So learn the good, the bad, and the ugly, in order to avoid damaging your skin when you’re goal is to improve your skin. Here is a list of ingredients to avoid:

  • Aluminum
  • Pthalates
  • DEET
  • Dioxins
  • Formaldehyde
  • PABA
  • Para-Aminobenzoic Acid (PABA)
  • Parabens

#9 Taking Hot Showers

If you’re taking a hot shower every night, then this could be a problem. Hot showers strip your skin of healthy oils and essential moisture, which leave you with dry and flaky skin. Instead, take hot showers every once in a while, and take warm showers more often.

#10 Product Application Order

The order you apply creams to your face is also very important. Add the thicker, creamier products at the end; while the thinner consistency creams should be applied first. The thicker and creamier creams can block the penetration of the thinner consistency creams. As a result, you may be missing out on a product that is supposed to be repairing your skin, which leads to your skin only becoming worse because that cream is not being properly utilized.
